A domain is the company’s address on the internet and, unlike almost everything else in technology, it is a hard decision to undo. Changing domain means losing search ranking, reprinting material and notifying every client.
.co.mz or .com?
A .co.mz immediately says the company operates in Mozambique, which counts in your favour when the client is local and when someone searches for services in the country. A .com makes sense if there is real intent to work abroad.
You do not have to choose one: registering both and pointing one at the other costs little and stops someone else taking the variant.
Three practical rules
- Short and spellable over the phone. If you have to spell it out, it is too complicated.
- No hyphens or numbers. They are the main reason clients type the address wrong.
- Close to the trading name. The domain should be guessable by anyone who already knows the brand.
Before registering
Check whether the name is already registered as a trademark and whether the matching social accounts are free. It is also worth confirming the domain was not previously used for spam — a bad history hurts email delivery.
A good domain does not make the company better. But a confusing one loses contacts every month, without anyone noticing.
