Switching tools for fashion is expensive. Switching too late is more expensive still. These are the signs we see repeated in the companies that end up moving.
1. Closing the day takes longer than the selling
If someone stays late reconciling the till against notebooks, the problem is not the person. It is that there is no single record.
2. Nobody knows real stock without walking to the warehouse
Selling what no longer exists costs the client and the deal. Stock that updates on the sale fixes this on day one.
3. Prices depend on who is at the counter
With no central price list, each salesperson grants their own discount. The margin disappears without appearing anywhere.
4. Invoicing is done twice
Recording the sale in one place and re-entering it for accounting is duplicated work — and it is where the errors come in.
5. Decisions are made on gut feel
Questions like “which item had the best margin last month?” should have an answer in seconds.
If you recognised three of these five, the cost of not having a system is already higher than the cost of having one.
